The operator of the Cattenom nuclear power plant, EDF-CNPE, has announced that reactor 3 was shut down overnight on Saturday, 26 September, to allow for scheduled maintenance work. This shutdown will enable the replacement of one third of the reactor's fuel elements and facilitate nearly 4,500 inspections and maintenance tasks throughout the facility.
These include work on various fittings and detailed camera inspections. According to EDF-CNPE, this represents the final planned shutdown as part of the 2026 maintenance campaign at the plant.
Units 1 and 2 remain operational and continue to produce electricity. Reactor 4, meanwhile, is still out of service for maintenance.
