Images from the incident depict a small car embedded in the store front of the “La Mie Câline” bakery, on place Turenne in Thionville.
The accident happened around 11am on Thursday morning.
According to regional news outlet Républicain lorrain, the driver of the vehicle was a woman of a certain age, stunned by the accident and unable to explain her actions. Before crashing through the shop window, she had mounted the pavement in her car and run over bicycles and furniture on the street. An investigation is ongoing to ascertain her state of health at the time.
Républicain Lorrain reported that four people suffered light injuries in the accident - relatively few considering the nature of the incident.
