A 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man did not survive the impact. Several other people suffered injuries as a consequence of the crash.
The rally, which was in its penultimate stage, was abandoned after the devastating accident.
The Liège prosecutor’s office has since opened an investigation to determine whether the group of spectators were at a prohibited location to observe the race. Rain is also said to have contributed to more dangerous racing conditions.
