She shared photos of the incident on Twitter, which were widely shared online and jokingly used as an analogy for the UK’s slow progress in its Brexit negotiations with the EU as well as the disaster course many interpret Brexit to be. Twitter user Gavin replied “Abandoned. Just like all those Brexit promises.”, reflecting the Remainers’ little confidence in the UK’s leading party. Food critic Jay Raynor described the images as a “gift from the Gods of Unsubtle metaphor.”
For others, the abandonment could also reflect David Cameron’s leadership, given he was the one to suggest the referendum on the UK’s status within the European Union, and quickly jumped ship afterwards. Of course, there are many different interpretations for the metaphor.
The bus has been towed away and the Brexit Party confirmed that it suffered a ‘mechanical failure’. Sometimes, the jokes do just make themselves, as the incident shows.
