ISTANBUL BOMBING - Turkish authorities said that a suspect has been arrested after an explosion killed six people and wounded 81 in central Istanbul on Sunday. Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said a person suspected of leaving the bomb has been arrested, and blamed the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, the PKK. So far no one has claimed responsibility for the blast.

EU MEETING - EU foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels today. The Ukraine war will dominate the agenda and Foreign Minister Kuleba will take part via videolink – a training mission for the Ukrainian army should be decided today. In the run-up to this, the annual meeting of the Benelux Union is taking place. Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn will take stock of the Luxembourg Presidency. In addition, the priorities for the cooperation between Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands for the next year will be fixed.

US CHINA MEETING - US president Joe Biden will meet China’s leader Xi Jinping for the first time today, since taking office. The meeting ahead of the G20 summit in Bali tomorrow, comes as relations between the two countries are strained. Biden is expected to raise US concerns over Taiwan, Russia’s war in Ukraine and North Korea’s nuclear ambitions at the meeting.

VERDICT MH17 - Dutch judges will give their verdict on Thursday in the trial of four men accused of downing Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine in 2014, against a backdrop of soaring tensions over Russia’s current invasion. All 298 passengers and crew were killed when the Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was hit over separatist-held eastern Ukraine by what prosecutors say was a missile supplied by Moscow.

DIABETES
- It’s World Diabetes Day. Over 30,000 people here in Luxembourg have diabetes. One in ten adults, or more than 32 million people in the EU have diabetes. There were a number of demonstrations over the weekend and today to inform people about the risks and prevention possibilities of this chronic disease.

FORMULA 1 RUSSELL - In Formula 1, George Russell powered to his maiden Grand Prix victory ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton on Sunday as Mercedes ended their barren run with a triumphant one-two at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The 24-year-old English driver resisted the pressure from compatriot Hamilton to finish 1.529 seconds clear of the seven-time champion .

WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN - Less than one week from kickoff, the World Cup trophy returned to Qatar on Sunday, teams and fans started arriving and safety barriers went up across Doha ahead of one of the most controversial football tournaments ever. The trophy which will be presented on December 18 returned from a world tour of 51 countries in time for next Sunday’s opening game between hosts Qatar and Ecuador. Qatar is predicting more than one million fans will come to watch the tournament

The day will start off with some mist and fog, with a cloudy afternoon until the evening. There should be some rain from around 7pm. Morning temperatures will start off at around 3°C, rising to 7-10°C in the afternoon.
