The bodies of several people are reported to have been found in a lift following a fire at the Tour OXY tower on Place De Brouckère in Brussels, Belgian outlet Le Soir has reported. No official death toll has yet been confirmed.

According to Belgium's labour inspectorate, the fire broke out shortly before 8am on Tuesday.

Six people remain unaccounted for. According to the Brussels public prosecutor's office, they are thought to be trapped in a separate lift that firefighters have so far been unable to access.

Two people were taken to hospital with burns, while a third was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

The blaze began on the second floor of the tower on Tuesday morning and was initially brought under control. However, the flames spread into the building's lift shafts, sparking a second fire, which has since also been extinguished.
