
WW2 COMMEMORATION - 78 years ago today, Nazi Germany surrendered in World War II. It was the end of the war in Europe, after over 5 years of misery. The end of the war will be marked in Luxembourg today at the Golden Lady on Place de la Constitution. Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will attend the lunchtime ceremony.
US VISIT - Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Minister of Economy Franz Fayot are on a working visit to California along with several Luxembourgish companies. First stop is San Francisco, Silicon Valley and then to Los Angeles. The visit is focused on the space sector.
TEXAS SHOOTING - US media say a gunman who shot dead 8 people in a shopping mall in Texas on Saturday, was a suspected far-right sympathiser. Police in the Dallas suburb of Allen, haven’t officially named the killer or released any details of a motive. Officers shot him dead at the scene. The mayor of Allen paid tribute to the victims at a vigil yesterday.
UKRAINE ATTACKS - Air raid alerts have sounded across southern Ukraine in response to the latest missile attacks by Russia. Moscow has stepped up its aerial bombardment ahead of an expected spring offensive by Ukraine.
EU SANCTIONS - The European Union is reported considering putting sanctions on a number of Chinese firms, suspected of helping the Russian military. The Financial Times newspaper in the UK says the proposal is aimed at 7 businesses accused of selling equipment that could be used in weapons.
SUDAN PEACETALKS - The UN’s top aid official was in Saudi Arabia on Sunday for ceasefire talks between Sudan’s warring generals, as concern grows for the humanitarian situation at the start of a fourth week of gun battles and air strikes in the Sudanese capital. Multiple truce deals have been declared, without effect, since fighting erupted between army and paramilitary forces on April 15 in the poverty-stricken country with a history of political instability.
CORONATION CONCERT - A star-studded concert to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III took place at Windsor castle last night. 20,0000 people and millions worldwide watched a host of performers. Among them, Lionel Richie, Take That and Katy Perry.
FORMULA 1 - Max Verstappen has won the Miami Grand Prix, beating his Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso for Aston Martin. This despite the fact that he started from ninth place. The 1-2 for Red Bull is their fourth in five races so far this season as the team dominate the sport. The next race is on May 21 in Imola, Italy.
FOOTBALL - Swift Hesperange is the Luxembourgish football champion. On Sunday, Hesperange won the first Luxembourg championship in its history by winning 6-0 in Wiltz, while at the same time, Dudelange, its runner-up, was surprisingly beaten in Rosport 1-2.

The Spaniard earned his 10th career title with a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Jan-Lennard Struff and can reclaim the world number one ranking from Novak Djokovic simply by playing a single match at the Rome Masters next week.
