
STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS - Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will give his speech on the State of the Nation address today. In his speech, Bettel will outline the administration’s goals for the final year of the legislative period. FARMERS DEMO - Farmers will demonstrate outside parliament today. The 3 major trade unions from the sector: the Bauer-Allianz, the Centrale Paysanne, and the FLB, as well as the two youth organizations will gather at the Marché-aux-Herbes to explain their grievances to MPs. Farmers continue to worry about the planned agricultural law.
UKRAINE ATTACKS - Due to yesterday’s Russian air attacks, the United States has pledged further aid to Ukraine, including more modern anti-aircraft systems. In the attacks yesterday, a total of 14 people were killed, almost 100 were injured. The bombings in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities were the worst in months and were strongly condemned internationally. Due to the attacks, the G7 is also meeting in Berlin today for an emergency meeting. President Zelensky is expected to address the G7 meeting.
PUTIN IAEA - Meanwhile, President Putin is meeting Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency today. The meeting is about the safety of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant Zaporizhia, which is under Russian control. The IAEA is calling for a protection zone around the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
IRELAND FUNERALS - The first funerals will take place today of the victims who died on Friday, when an explosion destroyed a petrol station in County Donegal in Ireland. The tragedy that killed 10 people has shocked Ireland – initial evidence points to an accident, there is speculation about a gas leak
JAPAN/LUXEMBOURG COVID - For 2 and a half years it was as good as closed: from today foreign tourists can enter Japan again.All travel restrictions have been lifted today but you have to be fully vaccinated, or be able to show a negative COVID test and there is still a mask mandate. In Luxembourg - there were 861 registered corona infections in this country over the weekend. 29 people are in the hospital due to covid, two of them in an intensive care unit.
FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - it is the 4th matchday in the Champions league today. Among tonight’s matches Donetsk will play Real Madrid, PSG vs Benfica, Dortmund v Seville and Milan v Chelsea
EURO 2024 LUXEMBOURG: UEFA has published the fixtures list for Group J: Luxembourg must first face Slovakia away, before taking on the challenge of group favourites Portugal at home on 26 March 2023 - a game which is sure to draw crowds at the Stade de Luxembourg.The Red Lions’ other home games include Liechtenstein on 17 June, Iceland on 8 September, Slovakia on 16 October and Bosnia-Herzegovina on 16 November.
