Belgium will no longer place travel bans on European countries and regions classified as at-risk zones for their high infection rates. Minister of Foreign Affairs Philippe Goffin explained that Belgium had been the only European country not only to discourage, but to actually prohibit travels to these zones. He noted that the change would come in effect on Friday 25 September and that it aimed at strengthening coordination between EU members.

Thus far, Belgium has employed a three-colour-system that designated countries as either safe, medium, or at-risk, which meant that travels to such regions could be accompanied with quarantine measures or even prohibited if not deemed essential. This caused a number of problems over the summer months, since many places fluctuated between safe and at-risk.
