Two intoxicated men from Luxembourg and Belgium were found sleeping in their car on a Sölden ski slope after tearing down a toll barrier in an attempt to "live their dream" of starting the day directly on the mountain.

Police in Sölden faced an unusual call-out in the early hours of Saturday. Officers had been alerted to a damaged barrier at the Rettenbach/Tiefenbachferner toll station.

When they arrived, they found the barrier torn from its hinges and lying on the ground. Not far from the toll point, the officers also discovered the culprits: a 38-year-old Luxembourger and a 40-year-old Belgian, asleep in their car on the slope near the glacier ski area.

When questioned, the men explained that it had been “their dream” to sleep right on the mountain and start their day skiing from there.

Both were still under the influence of alcohol when checked. The 38-year-old Luxembourger’s license, who had been driving, was confiscated. The extent of the damage to the toll barrier has yet to be determined.
