WHOAl-Shifa hospital 'in need of resuscitation'

Every minute, new patients are arriving. Wounds are being patched up on the floor, and there are hardly any, if any, painkillers available. There is not enough clean water, nor food.

Operating rooms are not in use due to a lack of oxygen and supplies. According to the WHO team on spot, it is a “hospital in need of resuscitation”. The emergency room is described as a “blood bath”.

On X, formerly Twitter, the head of the World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesuss, wrote that a direct ceasefire is the only sustainable solution for the health situation in Gaza. WHO Emergency Medical Teams Coordinator Sean Casey reported from inside the hospital on X:
