300 residents in Gerolstein, Rhineland-Palatinate, had to be evacuated on Wednesday as experts defused a WWII-era aerial bomb.

The bomb had been found early on Tuesday morning during construction works. There had been no danger to the population, but the police closed off the area out of precaution.

On Wednesday, the WWII-era aerial bomb was removed and successfully defused by experts. The US aerial bomb weighed 125 kilograms. Residents were able to return to their homes in the evening.
