We all know that Germans take their bottle recycling seriously. You pay a deposit when buying bottles and then get that money back when you take a collection of bottles back to the recycling machine (the Pfandsystem). Some opportunists even grab bottles from bins to make an extra bit of money.

One driver thought he could appeal to petrol station staff by offering them bottles. Filling his car up for €10, he then offered the cashier empty bottles which they could earn money off by recycling. After she refused his offer, the driver became loud and aggressive. German police officers took the 43 year old to the police station. There, they found the car did not even belong to him and seized the vehicle. The man then had to make his way home on foot.
