On Tuesday morning at 8.10 am, the crash occurred two kilometres away from the Danne-et-Quatre-Vents motorway stop. The lorry was transporting utility vehicles and managed to veer off course, crashing through the central barrier and blocking the entire motorway.
The lorry had been travelling from Strasbourg towards Paris. When it veered off course, it collided into a car travelling in the other direction. The crash caused the motorway to be closed for several hours. The motorway reopened at the start of the afternoon.
However, traffic remains slow as roadworks are underway repairing the safety barrier between the lanes.
According to the newspaper Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace, three people sustained light injuries: the two men in the lorry, aged 38 and 53 respectively, and the car driver, a 24 year old woman.
