Over the weekend, unidentified individuals damaged a Renaissance-era sculpture in Trier Cathedral.

According to German police, the perpetrators forcibly tore off the sculpture's head and took it with them. A public appeal for witnesses has been launched.

Authorities noted that the financial damage is difficult to quantify, as the sculpture's historical value far outweighs its material worth. For now, investigators are still examining whether the act constitutes theft or vandalism.
