In Rhineland-Palatinate, near Speyer, a 64-year-old wrong-way driver collided head-on with another car on a main road on Saturday evening, killing three people and seriously injuring one.
The accident happened on Saturday evening in the municipality of Römerberg. Police in Ludwigshafen reported that both cars caught fire after the collision. The wrong-way driver died at the scene despite rescue efforts. The 24-year-old driver of the second car and his 21-year-old passenger were also killed, while a 20-year-old woman travelling with them was seriously injured.
The road remained closed for several hours while police and prosecutors investigated.
