A parked combine harvester in Bad Überkingen began moving on its own Saturday evening, rolling into a garden where people were celebrating.

What the Ulm police called “a stroke of luck despite misfortune” happened Saturday evening in Bad Überkingen. A ten-tonne combine harvester, parked a few hundred meters away in a field, somehow started rolling on its own, without a driver, and broke through a hedge before coming to rest in a garden where people were celebrating.

Fortunately, no one was injured, and the house itself wasn’t damaged. The harvester only rolled about two meters into the garden before getting stuck on a structural element, which stopped it in its tracks.

Firefighters and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief quickly secured the machine to prevent it from moving any further.

Police say they don’t know if the party carried on after the surprising incident. The cause of the harvester’s unexpected movement is still under investigation.
