A Saturday dawn crash just across the Luxembourg border in France left one dead after a vehicle veered off the D18 and hit a tree near Doncourt-lès-Longuyon.
A 20-year-old man died in a single-vehicle accident Saturday morning on the D18 road near Doncourt-lès-Longuyon, just across the Franco-Luxembourg border.
The collision occurred at around 6am when the victim's car left the roadway and struck a tree with what French media described as "extreme violence." Emergency responders arriving at the scene pronounced the driver dead at the site.
According to Le Républicain Lorrain, the impact was severe enough to likely cause instantaneous death. Firefighters required specialised equipment to extricate the victim from the wreckage.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
