The strike starting on 11 December does not have an end date yet, and another strike has been announced for 21 November.
The trade union of the French railway company have announced a strike starting on 11 December. As a protest to the expected restructuring in the railway sector of SNCF, and to the partial privatisation of regional lines, the employees will cease working on at 7pm on 11 December. Last Saturday, the four SNCF trade unions revealed the strike dates and the reasoning behind the actions, noting that the strike currently has no set end date and could be extended by 24 hours at a time.
Even prior to this announcement, the unions had called for a strike on 21 November, which will remain in place.
Railway strikes in France often coincide with holiday periods, either just before or after. The most recent strike occurred in February during the holiday season, disrupting travel for over 150,000 passengers. The last Christmas-time strikes were in 2022.
