On Thursday evening, police were urgently dispatched to Trier Central Station after a report of a man handling a handgun aboard a regional train.

The incident began when a passenger traveling on the regional express from Saarburg to Trier noticed a man with a weapon, prompting him to alert the federal police.

The 38-year-old man, who was carrying an alarm pistol, caused the alarm to be raised. Authorities quickly responded to the scene at the station. It was later determined that the man had been drinking, with a blood alcohol level of 1.5 per mille. He had placed the weapon back into a locked transport case, which he had secured with a padlock.

According to the Federal Police Inspectorate of Trier, the man explained that he had taken the pistol out of the case to send a photo of it to a friend.

A subsequent search of his apartment, authorized by the Trier Public Prosecutor's Office, uncovered 47 blank cartridges.

Both the weapon and the ammunition were seized by police. The man, who was no longer in possession of the firearm, was later released.
