A 19-year-old woman was killed in a car accident on the A30 motorway near Aumetz, in the French department of Moselle, on Saturday evening. The accident occurred around 8.20pm as a result of severe thunderstorms in the region.

According to the Republican Security Corps (CRS) response centre, the vehicle was attempting to avoid a tree that had fallen onto the motorway due to the storms. A lorry following closely behind was unable to brake in time, causing the car to be pushed down an embankment.

The fire brigade arrived on the scene and attempted to resuscitate the young woman through cardiac massage. However, she succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital. The driver and front-seat passenger of the vehicle were not injured in the incident.

The accident led to the closure of a four-kilometre section of the motorway for two hours.
