Travel chaos is to be expected over the coming days, with around 200 flights already cancelled as Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport is to be reduced to one runway from midday on Thursday. Passengers have been advised to prepare for delays.
The Dutch weather service has issued a yellow alert ahead of the storm, with winds expected to reach up to 90 kilometres per hour.
Luxembourg’s national weather forecaster Meteolux has also issued a yellow alert for the whole country from midday on Thursday, which could extend into Friday. Wind gusts are likely to reach up to 85 km/h and may affect the country’s northern region more than others.
Germany confirmed a similar weather alert from Thursday afternoon until Friday, with northern areas more likely to be affected by the storm. Southern parts of the country will experience wind gusts from Thursday evening onwards. It is thought that the wind will start to drop somewhat on Friday.
