The aquarium at the Radisson Collection Hotel in Berlin, which holds 1 million litres of water, unexpectedly burst on Thursday night.
According to the German magazine Focus, the incident triggered a major intervention by the German capital's firefighters since both the hotel lobby and the street outside the hotel were flooded.
A total of 100 firefighters were despatched to the hotel, which is not far from Berlin Cathedral. The street in front of the hotel had to be closed due to the significant amount of water that escaped. The firefighters also checked to see if any water had entered the underground carpark.

It is unknown why the tank exploded, submerging both the lobby and the street with water. According to a fire department spokesperson, they will now have to determine whether anyone was injured.
Aside from the hotel, the DomAquarée building also houses the Sea Life underwater world and the AquaDom, the world's largest freestanding cylindrical aquarium, which was renovated in 2020.
