In an attempt to reduce energy consumption, the updated labels will come into effect on 1 March 2021.

The EU has decided to reintroduce a more comprehensible designation of the energy classes from A to G. All designations with A+, A++, and A+++ will therefore disappear again so that the availability of spare parts and repair instructions can be guaranteed.

The following appliances are concerned:

- Televisions
- Monitors
- Dishwashers
- Refrigerators and freezers
- Wine fridges and minibars
- Washing machines, as well as washing machines with integrated driers

Tyres will receive new labels from 1 May onwards, while lights will not be affected until 1 September. All other electronic appliances such as driers, vacuum cleaners, or ovens will only be subject of new labels in 2024, while heating appliances will not be affected until 2026.

The transition period ends on 18 March: after that, appliances with old labels will no longer be permitted in shops. The new appliances are already being shipped to various stores, which is why many may have two labels for the time being.

There will also be differences in the labelling of electricity and water consumption, as the producers will now have to adhere more to the reality of consumption. There will also be more information on the new labels, for example the time of the rinsing or washing programme which influence electricity consumption.

The website www.oekotopten.lu which lists the most energy-efficient products in Luxembourg, has naturally already taken these new labels into account.
