  • and 6 cases originating from regions other than Grand Est.

ONLY PEOPLE OF ADVANCED AGE

Twelve new deaths have been recorded over the course of a few days, bringing to the total number of fatalities up to 21. The age of people having died from the virus since 11 March ranges from 73 to 95.

Further measures are now being taken to limit the uncontrolled spreading of the corona virus and protect the people most at risk. Thus far, two departments of the region have seen the worst impacts of the outbreak: Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin.

SUPPORT FOR THE ELDERLY

The entirety of the French health sector is on high alert. Currently, both testing and reanimation capacities are being reinforced to face Covid-19 and protect the staff in its fight against the virus.

Visits to retirement homes have been cancelled to protect the elderly most at risk of fatal consequences, but they will see additional support in the foreseeable future.

Although schools have momentarily been closed, students will still be able to partake in educational programs, while their parents will be supported financially to safeguard their children during these exceptional times.

SECURITY MEASURES

The goal is set on limiting exposure and further spreading of the virus, especially in those regions where the disease has not yet fully unfolded.

A set of security measures has therefore been installed, including the following points:

  • Regular washing of hands with soap,
  • Covering up of the face while coughing and sneezing,
  • Employing single-use tissues and disposing of them,
  • Greeting people without physical contact.

In case of symptoms (cough, fever) or return from an infection risk zone, people are being asked to self-quarantine for 15 days. In any case, people are obliged to report symptoms of Covid-19 and avoid further contact with people.
