Although these matters are not necessarily linked, social media users have been criticising the ‘Grab-And-Go Bag’ campaign, which promotes a bag containing various emergency items. Among other local authorities, the Police Scotland Twitter account posted an image of the ‘grab-bag’ alongside an unnerving message:

The items depicted were: clothing suitable for the weather, toiletries, a pen and notepad, batteries, phone charger, whistle and a first aid kit - alongside a host of other ‘essentials’.

The grab bag campaign quickly went viral as social media users accused authorities of scaremongering, while others wondered whether they ‘know something we don’t’. Some mocked the campaign by sharing pictures of their personal ‘grab bags’ on Twitter. Others predicted an alien invasion or imminent zombie apocalypse.
