Germany climate goals+70 cents for diesel and motorway speed limits reduced to 120km/h?

The German Environment Agency is calling for drastic measures to combat climate change.

Higher petrol prices, reduced speed limits, and higher tolls for trucks are among the measures that Germany’s Environment Agency suggested to combat climate change.

The tax on diesel would have to rise by 70 cents to €1.19 per litre by 2030, while petrol should become 47 cents more expensive, the German Süddeutsche Zeitung reports, citing an internal paper from the environment agency.

The climate goals are, according to a spokesman, “ambitious” but “doable.”

The toll imposed on trucks (LKW Maut) would also have to rise sharply.

A 120 km/h speed limit on the German motorway would also need to be introduced - a move deemed highly controversial in Germany.
