As we reported in an earlier article, Naya was the first female wolf to reappear in Belgium. Sadly, a Belgian environmental agency announced that the wolf was most probably killed by poachers.
To make matters worse, researchers were able to ascertain without any doubt that the female wolf had mated and would be giving birth to a litter of wolf pups. In other words, the poachers not only killed Naya but also her pups.
Poachers kill Naya, first wolf to reappear in Belgium, and her pupsSeveral days after the Belgian environmental agency published the sad report, numerous agencies (Animal Rights, Natuurhulpcentrum et Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen) and an entrepreneur from Antwerp announced that they would offer a considerable reward to the person who gives information leading to the identification of the poachers. The reward was initially set at €20,000 but the Flemish entrepreneur added another €10,000.
