
The fire, driven by winds of 80 km/h, broke out around 2am, destroying one mobile home and “partially affecting five others as well as a caravan,” the release stated.
Covering roughly two hectares, the fire “violently affected the Mar Estang campsite,” which spans 14 hectares and has 600 pitches, accommodating up to 3,000 people.
By 7am, about 2,500 campers had returned to their accommodations, while a gymnasium was opened to shelter the remaining holidaymakers.
“During the operations, seven people were slightly injured, including four civilians, two firefighters, and a police officer,” with two of the injured requiring hospitalisation. The fire was brought under control by 4:38 am.
