
The perpetrator was a 15-year-old boy who killed the 14-year-old schoolgirl after sexually assaulting her in the farmhouse near Dublin. He was convicted of aggravated sexual assault and “sadistic” murder. He was sentenced to life in jail.
A second teenage boy who also played a role in the abuse and killing was sentenced to 15 years’ detention.
Post-mortem examinations had found that Anna suffered neck and head injuries. Evidence of sexual assault matching the DNA of the first perpetrator was also found.
The judge on the case said the the lives of Ana’s relatives had been “shattered in the most cruel circumstances”. He added: “Ana’s murder has resulted in a lifelong sentence for them compounded by the manner of its occurrence.’”
The two boys are the youngest convicted murderers in the history of the Irish state.
