CNN, NBC and Reuters reported that the 14-year-old Alabama resident killed his entire family. The shooting occurred on Monday night in the town of Elkmont, a spokesman for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office said.
The boy himself called police after the incident and admitted to the shooting. Officials said three people were confirmed dead at the residence. Two were airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, but died shortly afterwards of their injuries.
It remains unclear where the teenager obtained the gun. The killings follow a series of mass shootings in the US. Only last week, a gunman hijacked a US postal truck and opened fire at random in the US state of Texas Saturday, shooting dead at least five people and wounding many others before dying in a shootout with officers.
