The innovation centre aims to create more sustainable and ultra lightweight materials to use in different areas of mobility such as rail, space or aeronautics.
These components would be used to combat the effects of climate change and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Therefore the centre’s focus lies on the local transport sector as it is currently accounting for the majority of greenhouse emissions in Luxembourg.
LIST, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, will lead the partnership development activities, and oversee the centre’s research programme, infrastructure management and operations. Luxinnovation, the national innovation agency, will support the programme through outreach activities, market intelligence and funding.
Sasha Baillie, the CEO of Luxinnovation commented on the program’s outreach: “The SCMM not only gives Luxembourg companies tremendous opportunities to carry out innovative projects in the field of sustainable composite materials but also helps us to attract innovative international companies to develop new technologies in Luxembourg.”
Thomas Kallstenius, the CEO of LIST concludes: “We are committed to making a difference in addressing the climate change challenge, and the Centre will be a key instrument in this endeavour bringing innovative sustainable materials and solutions to our industrial partners.”
