A French primary school dealing with a declining number of student registrations has suddenly grown by 15. Parents who feared that an entire year would end up closing registered 15 sheep as new classmates.

The idea came to parents when the school in Crêts-en-Belledonne, a village near the Alpes, announced that the total number of students had already dropped from 266 to 261. As a result, one of eleven classes had to close.

A local herder brought along 15 of his sheep and showed up to the school on Tuesday. The sheep could be enlisted due to the fact that they had birth certificates.

Speaking to the AFP, parents hinted that the scheme was mainly a sneer towards the French education authority.

The new classmates require some time getting used to. Their names include Baa-bete, Saute-Mouton and Shaun.
