Following the floods that rocked Luxembourg in mid-July, many private gardens were submerged by overflowing rainwater.
Oil cisterns and septic tank leakage may have found its way into the spreading flood waters and depending on the location, this water can therefore be loaded with microorganisms and thus transport harmful chemicals.
"It is difficult to assess the level of contamination of the fruit and vegetables that survived the floods", and the Ministry of Health advises, as a precautionary measure that residents do not to consume these vegetables, nor compost them.
