On Thursday afternoon, 15 firefighters from southern Luxembourg embarked on a journey to France's Gironde region, along with numerous other teams from the Moselle area. They will travel 16 hours with five vehicles, covering 1,100 kilometres.

The firefighters, from the Sanem/Differdange, Dudelange/Bettembourg, Esch-sur-Alzette and Frisange/Roeser fire brigades, will spend a week in France to assist their counterparts with managing the ongoing wildfires.

25 people signed up for the mission, with 15 approved to take part.

Although the Luxembourgers will not participate in direct action against the wildfires, they will focus on protecting buildings from the blazes, and stepping in for incidents such as car accidents to ensure no personnel shortages.
