More than 60 volunteers work for the Luxroots organisation, which, over the past few years, managed to compile large data sets on Luxembourgish ancestors. Since 2003, volunteers at the organisation have saved and digitalised handwritten information, including birth certificates and marriage announcements.
Georges Eicher, president of Luxroots, commented on the project: “We are now capable of showing everyone with Luxembourgish grandparents information on four to eleven generations.”
However, the data base only includes people who lived between 1600 and 1920, as Eicher further conveyed: “In accordance with Luxembourgish law, access to certificates from the last 100 years is prohibited due to data protection. Still, people are mostly able to trace back recent family members to the point where we pick up the trail.”
Luxroots aims at supporting both ancestry research and providing people with insights into their family histories.
