For the DP’s Lydie Polfer, Thursday represented her sixth swearing-in ceremony as mayor of the Grand Duchy’s capital, following her decisive victory in the elections last month. Her responsibilities will remain the same as in her previous mandate, covering general administration, communication, culture, urban development and security.
A new face on the municipal council this year is former family minister Corinne Cahen (DP), who resigned from her post in government to take over responsibilities from Maurice Bauer (CSV), which include social action, the elderly, housing and political integration.
Another new member of the council is the CSV’s Paul Galles, who will replace Colette Mart in looking after areas such as education, crèches and the “foyers scolaires” (after-school and holiday childcare).
The first alderman Serge Wilmes (CSV), who came third in the elections, will continue with his departments of climate and environment, architecture, urban development (alongside Polfer) and public spaces.
Patrick Goldschmidt (DP), who was elected second, will maintain responsibilities in mobility and the organisation of festivals and markets, as well as the additional departments of digitisation, hygiene and goods and topography.
Maurice Bauer, who previously covered social work, will take over the finance department from Laurent Mosar (CSV), who is no longer on the council. In addition, he will also be responsible for commerce and tourism, equal opportunities and young people.
The DP’s Simone Beissel retains the department of sport and recreation, as well as infrastructure and new constructions.
