Police arrested several intoxicated individuals on Friday evening and recorded a large number of thefts from vehicles.

Over the past few hours, several public order offences have been reported, leading to a number of people being taken into custody. One such incident occurred on the evening of 15 May 2026 in Luxembourg City, after an inebriated person caused a disturbance on a bus.

Police officers despatched to the scene located the individual, who was shouting and refused to calm down despite the officers' presence. As the person posed a danger to themselves and others and was disturbing the peace, they were taken into custody for the remainder of the night.

Later that evening, at around 11.30pm, police were informed of a handbag theft at an establishment on Rue Joseph Junck in Luxembourg City. According to initial information gathered by officers, an individual had allegedly waited for a moment of inattention from the owner before attempting to steal the bag and flee. However, the suspect was detained by bystanders at the scene.

Police officers apprehended the individual, who was heavily intoxicated, and took them to the police station. As the person was uncooperative and had to be physically restrained on several occasions, they were also taken into custody.

Beware of thefts from vehicles

Police also report that several thefts from vehicles have taken place in the capital. Multiple vehicles with smashed windows were found in the Pfaffenthal neighbourhood.

Finally, police remind the public to remain vigilant when using a "keyless" entry system for vehicles. They specifically warn about the existence of signal amplifiers, which are capable of unlocking cars from several tens of metres away. They recommend never keeping a car key near a front door and, if possible, storing it in a box that blocks radio waves to prevent the use of such amplifiers.
