Luxembourg’s summer exam session for secondary school students begins on 19 May, with a total of 3,778 candidates preparing to sit their final written papers.
The examinations mark the conclusion of studies for pupils in both classical (Classique) and general (Général) secondary education, and determine access to higher education or the professional world.
According to figures released by the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, 56.8% of those registered are female (2,145 students), while 43.2% are male (1,633 students).
In terms of distribution, 1,650 pupils will sit the classical secondary school leaving exam – 934 young women and 716 young men. The general secondary school leaving exam sees a higher number of registrations, with 2,128 candidates, including 1,211 young women and 917 young men.
A smaller group of 36 candidates (22 women and 14 men) have followed evening courses and will also take part in the exams.
A total of 1,588 examiners, organised into 255 commissions, will assess the written, oral, and practical components of the examinations.
Minister of Education Claude Meisch has extended his best wishes to all candidates as they undertake this important step toward further studies or future careers.
