On 25 January, Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden officially signed a new administrative agreement alongside his French counterpart, Gérald Darmanin, to improve cooperation between authorities in both countries. The accord thereby allows police patrols to carry out controls on roads and train networks to monitor cross-border traffic more easily.

The agreement is hoped to have a positive impact ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics and aligns with the shared goal of enhancing security in the Schengen area.

On Wednesday, MPs in the home affairs commission received more details about the plan. The agreement is scheduled to come into force on 1 March this year, and importantly, the Chamber of Deputies will not be required to ratify it.
