4,500 signatures in support of the initiative were made in the Grand Duchy, which argues against the use of pesticides and in favour of supporting the biodiversity of fields and crops.
If the signatures get approved, the EU commission and parliament will have to discuss the initiative, which demands the abolishment of synthetic pesticides by the year 2035.
In Luxembourg, the initiative was supported by Mouvement Ecologique, Greenpeace, and Natur&Ëmwelt.
