With a total of 15 ministerial positions, most of which were occupied by candidates from the respective parties’ lists, the reshuffling will necessitate the entry of alternative candidates into the Chamber of Deputies. Our colleagues at RTL.lu took a closer look at potential candidates purely based on the number of votes garnered.
In the Centre constituency, Minister of Justice Elisabeth Margue, and Minister for the Environment and the Civil Service Serge Wilmes will join Prime Minister Luc Frieden in government. Maurice Bauer, alderman of Luxembourg City, Laurent Mosar, local councillor of Luxembourg City, and Alex Donnersbach, national president of the Christian Social Youth (CSJ) and alderman of Walferdange, emerge as potential entrants into the Chamber of Deputies.
The DP government team will include Minister of Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel and Minister for Defence, Equality between Women and Men, Mobility, and Public Works Yuriko Backes. Next up for seats in the Chamber of Deputies could be local councillor of Walferdange Guy Arendt and alderman of Luxembourg City Patrick Goldschmidt.
In the South constituency, CSV members Gilles Roth and Georges Mischo, holding finance and labour, as well as sport portfolios, respectively, could be succeeded by Nathalie Morgenthaler, alderwoman of Sanem and director of the Centre for Equal Treatment (CET), and Françoise Kemp, local councillor of Dudelange.
For the DP, Max Hahn will take charge of migration in addition to the Family Affairs portfolio, while Claude Meisch will be responsible for housing and spatial planning as well as education. Their potential successors in the Chamber of Deputies are local councillor for Pétange Barbara Agostino and former professional tennis player Mandy Minella.
Martine Hansen, President of the CSV North Group, assumes the roles of Minister of Agriculture and Consumer Protection. In the Chamber of Deputies, it is anticipated that agricultural engineer and farmer Jeff Boonen will step into her position.
For the DP, Eric Thill, the mayor of Schieren, is set to become the new Minister of Culture and Minster Delegate for Tourism. Given that he was not elected to the Chamber of Deputies initially, there will not be a replacement candidate.
In the East constituency, Léon Gloden of the CSV is appointed the new Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security. After he vacates his seat in the Chamber of Deputies, it is expected that Stéphanie Weydert, the mayor of the municipality of Rosport-Mompach and CSV Secretary General, will assume the role.
Taking charge of the Economic Affairs and Energy portfolios, Lex Delles from the DP will leave a vacancy in the Chamber of Deputies. Gilles Baum, the alderman of Junglinster, is next in line to fill this position.
