
Two shop theft cases in Luxembourg City were solved by police on Thursday, after two women were stopped in Gasperich and, later, two men were stopped on Grand Rue.
Police carried out several operations linked to thefts across the country on Thursday. Among other things, two shop theft cases in the capital were solved, while investigations are also under way into several cases involving thefts from vehicles. At the same time, police carried out traffic checks focused on sustainable mobility.
On Thursday afternoon, a theft was reported at a shop in Gasperich. According to initial information, two women had stolen several items of clothing. The suspects were stopped shortly afterwards by a police patrol and taken to the police station for further checks.
Later that same afternoon, another theft was reported on Grand Rue in Luxembourg City. A man, together with an accomplice, is suspected of having stolen a polo shirt from a shop. They too were stopped by police and taken to the police station.
In both cases, an official report was drawn up.
In Schengen, a car was broken into on Wednesday afternoon. According to an initial assessment, the perpetrator smashed a window, searched the car, and stole a bag. At the Aire de Capellen motorway service area on Friday morning, an unknown perpetrator gained access to a lorry and stole several pallets of products.
Investigations are also ongoing in these two cases.
In addition, police organised traffic checks focused on active mobility users, such as cyclists and e-scooter riders, in Dudelange and Bettembourg on 7 May. Checks were carried out, among other places, on Rue G.-D. Charlotte, Rue de l'Abattoir, and Route de Luxembourg in Dudelange, as well as near Parc Jacquinot and the railway station in Bettembourg.
A total of 21 people were checked. In seven cases, breaches of the road traffic regulations were recorded. In six cases, the owners voluntarily handed over their means of transport, while in one case it was seized by order of the public prosecutor's office.
