A small air plane on its way to Luxembourg crash-landed near Zell am See, Austria, on Tuesday afternoon. The 59-year-old pilot was killed in the crash.

According to police reports, the plane, registered in Luxembourg, had left Banja Luka in Bosnia in the early afternoon and was only supposed to make an intermediate stop in Austria when it crash-landed around 1.30pm.

A taxi driver witnessed the accident and, together with two locals, rushed to the air plane in an effort to provide first aid. Although the aircraft did not catch fire, the pilot succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The cause of the crash is not known at this stage, but an investigation has been launched.
