According to the latest update, 25 residents and 13 caregivers have tested positive at Kayl's Vitalhome. The structure is "seriously affected " by the coronavirus, according to the Luxembourg Red Cross which confirms that nine residents have succumbed to the virus and six others are currently hospitalised. More reassuringly, since 19 March, "no new case has been detected".
The first case was reportedly detected on Saturday, 27 February. Residents were confined to their rooms and a ban was imposed on outside visits. All residents were tested, resulting in several infections and therefore the start of a cluster.

"Our thoughts go first of all to the people who have lost a loved one, but also to the residents who are still hospitalised. In addition to the strengthened health provisions, we have deployed a team for social and psychological support for all those concerned", said Catherine Gaspenne, director of Aides et Soins.

Kayl's Vitalhome can accommodate up to 40 residents are currently only houses people who are on average 85 years old. It is therefore a particularly vulnerable population that is concerned. As of 23 March, 12 of them have been vaccinated.

Only on Tuesday Minister of Families and Integration, Corinne Cahen, confirmed that 22 lives had been claimed by coronavirus over the last month at the "Um Lauterbann" retirement home in Niederkorn, following an outbreak thought to be caused by one of the new variants.
