194 aspiring officersNew recruitment phase to begin at police academy

RTL Today
194 aspiring police officers are currently undergoing rigorous training at the police academy, preparing to join the force as part of its fourth major recruitment wave.

The fourth major wave of police recruitment, which aims at adding another 160 officers to the force, will begin on 20 November.

While an application at the police academy represents a career change for some, for others it means fulfilling a life-long dream. Recruits study no fewer than 47 subjects, including forensic science, evidence collection, and victim responses.

After a year of theoretical training with 1,350 hours of lessons, trainee officers have a year of practical training in the field ahead of them.

There are currently 194 first-year trainees at the academy. Over the last three years, around a third of the recruits have been women. The average age of trainees is 26 years.
