The fourth major wave of police recruitment, which aims at adding another 160 officers to the force, will begin on 20 November.
While an application at the police academy represents a career change for some, for others it means fulfilling a life-long dream. Recruits study no fewer than 47 subjects, including forensic science, evidence collection, and victim responses.
After a year of theoretical training with 1,350 hours of lessons, trainee officers have a year of practical training in the field ahead of them.
There are currently 194 first-year trainees at the academy. Over the last three years, around a third of the recruits have been women. The average age of trainees is 26 years.
