A debate was held in the Chamber of Deputies this week on one petition, while another received the required number of signatures. In addition, 33 new petitions have been published online by the Chamber as of Friday.

The full list of active petitions is available at www.petitiounen.lu.

As usual, the demands cover a broad spectrum. Some petitioners are calling for a national response to the housing crisis, while others want to see the minimum age for purchasing alcohol raised to 18. Other proposals include allowing electric vehicles to use carpool lanes, introducing stricter rules and an age limit of either 14 or 16 for e-scooters, and improving coordination of construction sites. Another petition is calling for the creation of fewer jobs.

Additional petitions demand free television for hospital patients and a ban on smart glasses with cameras in public spaces. Other topics include blocking the planned increase in the tax holding period for capital gains on shares from six to 12 months, as well as either reducing or eliminating the Tour de Luxembourg cycling event to avoid traffic disruption.

These petitions will remain open until 3 December.

If a petition receives at least 5,500 signatures, it must be debated publicly in the Chamber of Deputies.
