A new laboratory has been established through the merger of the State Veterinary Laboratory (LMVE) and the Food Monitoring Unit (SSA) of the National Health Laboratory (LNS). The newly formed lab is part of the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) and operates under the sole authority of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The merger, which took effect on 1 January 2025, resulted in the creation of the Veterinary and Food Laboratory (LVA).
As a division of ALVA, the LVA falls under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Viticulture. The new laboratory centralises all aspects of food chain control, including inspection, surveillance, and laboratory analysis.
In January, the LVA will publish an overview of the analyses it conducts on the agriculture and food safety portals, ensuring “full transparency regarding the services of the laboratory.” Additional relevant documents will also be made available on these portals.
