Police officers encountered a motorist with a penchant for unconventional driving around 2.30am on Friday. The unsuspecting officers, patrolling Avenue de la Liberté in Luxembourg City, were taken aback when they spotted a vehicle accelerating down the tram lane at an alarming speed.

Swift action ensued, leading the patrol to intercept the wayward driver. Upon conducting a check, it became evident that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, a fact corroborated by a subsequent breathalyser test. As a result, a temporary driving ban was promptly enforced.

This incident followed a road accident on Thursday evening on Rue de Hollerich in the same neighbourhood of the capital. The driver involved in the earlier accident tested positive for alcohol, prompting an immediate confiscation of their driving licence.

In a proactive move between 8.30pm and 1.30am on Thursday night, police conducted alcohol tests in Heiderscheid, Pommerloch, and Wiltz.

A total of 379 motorists underwent breathalyser tests, with seven cases returning positive results. As a consequence, four penalty notices and three fines were issued, and two driving licences were confiscated on the spot.
