The Mobility Ministry and the Inter-Communal Syndicate of Person Transportation in Esch-sur-Alzette (TICE) on Monday announced in a statement (FR) that due to capacity limits, TICE busses will no longer be carrying out school routes in 2026, which are to be taken over by the General Regional Road Transport (RGTR) department. The statement also denied reports by newspaper Tageblatt that a new “mixed syndicate” will be created, assuring that the status of municipal employee for all TICE members will remain in place.
A new convention between the state and TICE has been in the works for the past two years. “This leak is detrimental to the serenity of the discussions underway and does not reflect the spirit of collaboration that prevails between the parties concerned”, the statement accordingly notes.
Tageblatt had initially reported that the new convention would limit the TICE fleet to 90 buses, 60 fewer than its current capacity. The number of drivers was reportedly to be capped at 330.
TICE has existed for close to 120 years, with at present nine southern municipalities among its members that contribute €30 million to its budget.
